This Dairy Free French Toast is the best substitute for any regular french toast recipe. Made dairy-free, gluten-free and naturally sweetened. Topped with a beautiful pink coconut whipped cream and fresh strawberries!
HOW TO MAKE BEST GLUTEN FREE DAIRY FREE FRENCH TOAST
Add all the ingredients in a large plate or shallow bow and then whisk it all up! Meanwhile preheat a large non stick pan and add some avocado or coconut oil.
Dip bread slices into the egg mixture on both sides. Transfer bread to preheated skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
Serve warm topped with coconut whipped cream, strawberries and maple syrup!
HOW TO MAKE DAIRY FREE PINK WHIPPED CREAM
My favorite way to make a dairy-free whipped cream is with a coconut milk. The coconut milk must be cold. That’s when the thick cream separates. Don’t forget to pop it in the fridge a night before! What I like to do, is always store a couple of cans in the fridge! Some of the coconut milks won’t solidify into two layers. I tried different brands and I found that this one works the best of all!
You will also need to sweeten it up slightly. I like to use either a maple syrup or birch xylitol. Once you place coconut cream and sweetener in the bowl, all you need to do is mix with with an electrical mixer for about one minute (until creamy). And there you have it!For the pink color I added a pitaya powder!
IS FRENCH TOAST BAD FOR YOU?
Regular french toast is typically made with a not a good quality bread, eggs, loaded with sugar and fried in vegetable oil. But you can make pretty much any food healthier by using the right ingredients!
HOW TO MAKE HEALTHY FRENCH TOAST
Use coconut or avocado oil for “frying”
Good quality gluten-free or whole grain bread
Choose pasture-raised eggs (I love TJ pasture-raise eggs for only $4)
Plant based milk
Maple syrup, agave or honey as a sweetener

Ingredients
DAIRY-FREE FRENCH TOAST
1 tbsp coconut or avocado oil
4 slices of gluten-free bread
2 eggs (pasture-raised if possible)
1/2 cup plant based milk
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
COCONUT WHIPPED CREAM
1 can full-fat coconut milk
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp pink pitaya powder or more for color
strawberries and maple syrup to serve
Instructions
- Preheat a large pan with oil.
- In a large plate or shallow bowl whisk up all the ingredients except the bread.
- Dip bread slices into the egg mixture on both sides. Transfer bread to preheated skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Meanwhile, make the coconut whipped cream. Place the thick part of coconut milk, sweetener and pitaya powder in a bowl. Whisk together using electrical mixer until creamy and smooth - about 1 minute. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
- Serve warm with coconut whipped cream, strawberries and maple syrup!
